At the same time if you talk about second level then this is the SLD which is the part of the URL and uses the top level domain like domain.com

The third level domain is nothing but actually in real this is the partition of the second level domain and at the same time supportive of the first domain like support.domain.com and third level domain name is used to recognise to different servers within different departments of a company.
