The Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is a standard for interfacing external applications with information servers, such as HTTP or Web servers

A HTML document is not executed in real-time.Therefore it is static,Whereas cgi program is executed in real-time,therefore it is dynamic.

CGI program transmits user information to the server and receive the results back again and display them to the client.
